Methods: Five beagle bitches were administered MPA subcutaneously at 10 mg/kg, every four weeks. A combination of corticotropin-releasing hormone (CRH), growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH), gonadotrophin-releasing hormone (GnRH), and thyrotropin-releasing hormone (TRH) was administered before and 2, 5, 8, and 11 months after the initial MPA treatment. Blood samples for determination of plasma concentrations of adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH), cortisol, growth hormone (GH), insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1), luteinizing hormone (LH), follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), prolactin, α-melanocytestimulating hormone (α-MSH), and thyroidstimulating hormone (TSH) were collected at -15, 0, 5, 10, 20, 30, and 45 minutes after each administration of combined hypothalamic releasing hormones.
